As a social liberal, I regard the recognition of and the respect for the natural inherent rights of each and every person as paramount to the fundamental moral basis of any society. When these rights are truly accepted, then we as a society will find a way to feed, shelter, educate, and provide healthcare for each and every person; with prejudices against none, nor with preferences on behalf of any. A society based upon profits for the priviledged fails these basic concepts, and qualifies for reformation of the system which allows such a state of affairs. A society based upon provisions for the people is the desired end of social liberalism, and thus will be the subject of discussion throughout the commentaries documented within this blog.
It is my belief that if society will arrive at its desired end, that the means to such must be a reformation based upon reason, rather than a rebellion which leads to revolt. To the intellect we must appeal, and rational presentation of our case must be the assault. Whatever might be my reservations as to our capitalistic society, I truly believe that our political process allows opportunity for a reasonable and peacable reform of the same.
Solidarity is key to the success of any social reform. We liberals must stick together! We must be tolerant of each others beliefs and lifestyles, and we must respect each others privacy and convictions. It is with this thought in mind that I separate my commentaries into a variety of categories. Within these writings I will set forth my case for various aspects of social liberalism by appealing to generally accepted standards of right and wrong, good and bad, improved and deficient, so forth and so on. However, I will also offer commentaries of a more specific nature within a second category. I personally believe that the Bible has been grossly misrepresented by the so called “religious right”, and thus I will post commentaries dealing with scripture and certain societal issues in a specific category which identifies the writings therein as such.
Whatever your beliefs and sympathies, assuming your sincerity in seeking the good for every human being… welcome to my blog!!
